Travel Safety Tips

A few travel safety tips from the folks at http://www.safetytips411.com

1. Do your homework.
It is always important to know the area you will be visiting so as to familiarize yourself with the laws, customs, as well as the locations of the best tourist spots, and the tourist traps to avoid.

2. Never travel alone.
Yes, traveling alone can sometimes be a fun adventure.  However, if you want to increase your safety, it's good to travel with other people.  There really is safety in numbers.

3. Always be prepared for emergencies.
It does not necessarily mean that people must be pessimistic on the way they plan their travels. It’s just that they have to consider any possible emergencies and be prepared for them.  This includes packing an emergency kit with medications, as well as buying travel insurance.

4. Be aware of hotel accommodations.
Check the part of town your hotel is located in.  If it's a dicey area, don't make a reservation, no matter what great rates they offer.  If you don't feel comfortable walking from your hotel to a restaurant, go somewhere else.

5.  Dress appropriately
This applies to the weather as well as what the locals are wearing.  Research the weather of the area you'll be visiting.  Also, don't stand out as a tourist.  And, don't wear expensive jewelry which invites unwanted attention.

6.  Bring some cash
Take just enough. Credit cards are good, and it could be your primary mode of payment, but you might want to keep a few extra dollars in your pocket with local money. You may need it for cabs, buses and tips.

7.  Learn the language
Just study the basics, and the most common things you’re likely to ask a local. Learn it before you arrive.

8.  Put needed numbers in your cell phone
Make sure you store emergency numbers in your cell phone, as well as the number of your hotel, the airline, travel agent, etc.
