Things to Do in Hershey, PA

Do you love chocolate? No, I mean, really love chocolate? You know, chocolate truffles, chocolate shakes, chocolate ice cream? Gooey, silky chocolate anything? Then I have a recommendation for your next vacation. No, not Paris, though Paris would be nice, and, yes, they have fabulous chocolates there.

I'm talking about Hershey, Pennsylvania.

Yes, that Hershey. The one that makes the Hershey bars and Hershey Kisses. Sorry to take the romance away, but, someone actually makes it. It did not fall from Heaven. But, you can go to Hershey and experience all things chocolate. And, if you have kids, there's a theme park as well as nearby Lancaster, Pennsylvania, home to a large Amish community, where you can experience Amish life, as well as purchase Amish products.

If you're an absolute nut for chocolate you will want to stay at the Hershey Lodge, which is a family-oriented resort with chocolate-themed decor in every room. While there you must indulge yourself with a spa treatment at the Spa at the Hershey Lodge. What makes this spa treatment stand out? well, where else could you get a Chocolate Bean Polish or a Chocolate Fondue Wrap?

With the Chocolate Bean Polish you are gently exfoliated with cocoa bean husks and walnut shells, then softened with a Cocoa Body Moisturizer. The Chocolate Fondue Wrap isn't as messy as it sounds. The "fondue" consists of warmed moor mud and essence of cocoa.

Other Spa treatments included the Whipped Cocoa Bath, Chocolate Sugar Scrub and Peppermint Salt Scrub.

The summer 2008 room rates at the Hershey Lodge are from $289 for a single or double. There are also special packages offered including the Chocolate Spa Getaway Package, Girls Gone Golfing Package, Family Golf Package, and the Hershey Golf and Spa Package.

For families with children, there's plenty to do in Hershey, including Hershey Park, which is a theme park with rides, and Hershey's Chocolate World, which offers a chocolate tour, the opportunity to help operate an actual Hershey's Kisses chocolates packaging line, and chocolate tastings with an expert Chocolatier.

For golfers, you have a few choices, including the Hershey Country Club, Hershey Links, and Spring Creek Golf Course.  The Hershey Country Club has been ranked in the top 50 resorts in the U.S. by Golf Digest, featuring two distinctive 18-hole courses.  Spring Creek Golf Course is a par-33, nine-hole course.
