Garden Week in Virginia

It's Spring!  And, that means, "Historic Garden Week" in Virginia.

This year marks the 76th anniversary of Garden Week, held this year from April 18 to April 25, where visitors get an up-close look at more than 250 of Virginia's most beautiful gardens, home and historic landmarks.  What kinds of gardens can you visit?

  • formal gardens
  • water gardens
  • herb gardens
  • annual gardens
  • perennial gardens
  • walled gardens

located from the Atlantic Ocean to the Allegheny Mountains!

Homes and historic properties will also be on display in what is billed as the oldest and largest house and garden tour in the nation.

Highlights of the garden and home tour include:

  • Albemarle's Free Union neighborhood, home of Thomas Jefferson
  • 5 homes from the antebellum period to the 20th century near Warrenton
  • Lunch and wine tasting at the Sweely Winery Estate
  • 5 houses in Fredericksburg
  • George Washington's Mount Vernon Estate
  • The ancestral home of President Washington's great-great-grandfather, Augustine Warner on the historic Severn River
  • Eyre Hall plantation estate, considered the oldest garden in Virginia to have been continuously maintained

There are many more gardens, plantations and landmarks on display across Virginia during Garden Week.  For a schedule of properties and tour dates, go to www.gcvirginia.org
